The HDR effect is not too “controlling” and the scene kept it’s natural colors.

Hi – posted on twitter too. This is a nice image and the hdr is low key – very realistic. The only thing I’ll mention is the halo artifacting over and around some of the trees especially in the background. Photomatix is bad about doing this. You can try increasing the light smoothing to reduce it. A HDR editor that doesn’t do this as much is Essential HDR. It’s also cheaper and faster than Photomatix.
