PhotoFriday – ‘First Light’

This week’s Photo Friday entry: ’First Light’

Unlike traditional landscape photography, luckily for us there is never a bad time to get in the water, dawn, dusk, middle of the day, after dark. Theres always something to photograph. However the middle of the day at the Cayman sandbar is full of other tourists. If you want the place to yourselves, and to see the natural schooling behaviour of the rays, you really need to get there at dawn. These are pretty old photos now, 2011 and 2010. One day it would be nice to go back 🙂

If you want to see my underwater photos from various places then check out the collection of galleries in my Reef Beasties Gallery. Or my best from 2012 here.

PS: I’m currently still selling my 60mm/D300 underwater macro set-up. Click here for more details & the full list of equipment for sale or email me at Thanks for supporting my work!

  1. Thanks 🙂 It was pretty dark under the water until the sun was fully up though. Plus its harder in the red sea as there isn’t much topside – never any clouds! Hmmm maybe I should think about doing a split-levels how-to blog post?

  2. Thanks for loeading me here! These photos are amazing! I`ve always been facinated by the underwater world but unfortunately I don`t even know how to swim….Maybe one day I`ll finally findd the time to learn!
